Inside: Winter-themed journal pages for your kids can be a fantastic way to foster creativity and reflection during the colder months. 50+ Beautiful pages to encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and the development of communication skills.
Writing is one of my favorite occupations (especially when I have gorgeous journal pages as a fine setting for my efforts :). It’s amazing that my children, even the very young ones, enjoy writing with me. They sit next to me very quietly, and together, we put words on paper. I love the warm, fuzzy feeling that emerges from a simple act of writing for fun together. It creates a beautiful energy in a home.
Here’s the thing, though: we can’t find time for writing very often.
It’s annoying, but it’s true. Like everyone else these days, we are distracted by a million things that are begging for our attention and our focus. Do you know what I mean?! Everything seems urgent!
But in the end, all this busyness keeps us from doing things we really want to do and living our lives the way we want to.
What if there was a way to fix this problem?
Do you agree with this: nine times out of ten, things don’t happen simply because they weren’t a priority? I bet no matter how busy you are, your kids get fed every day, and you (almost) always brush your teeth before leaving the house and have your smartphone inspected a few times each day. We manage to find time for things we find important.
As Myles Munroe said, “Our life is the sum total of all the decisions we make every day, and those decisions are determined by our priorities.”
Over the past few weeks, I have been making writing time a priority for my kids and me. And I’m quite happy to report that, yes, it works. The simplest way is to set aside 10-15 minutes regularly for writing activities. And if you are having so much fun that it’s hard to stop (and there are no pressing obligations), well, who is to stop you?
To make it even more enjoyable, I created absolutely stunning winter-themed journal pages. Because who can resist the beauty of stunning watercolors!
I know there are so many pretty journals you can buy nowadays! The thing is that they cost a pretty fortune. I wanted to create something beautiful for you and me as a gift. So, go ahead; right now, you can download it for FREE.
Let’s Talk About Why Winter-Themed Journal Pages Are Good For Our Kids!
Winter-themed journal pages for your kids can be a fantastic way to foster creativity and reflection during the colder months.
No doubt about that!
Numerous studies show that journaling improves mental health and boosts immune function.
If that wasn’t enough to make journaling time a priority, there’s evidence that journaling makes us happier by providing a safe place to express and organize our mental clutter.
Much like the poets who capture the essence of winter through their words, journaling allows children to express their own unique perspectives and experiences without fear of being judged. And by encouraging them to put pen to paper, we can help them discover the joy of self-expression.
What I especially love about winter journaling is that it allows kids to explore their feelings and observations about the season! Let’s be honest: even those of us who love winter (I raise my hand here) find it hard sometimes to process the flow of thoughts unleashed by slowing down the regular routine due to cold, dark, and (at times) dreary weather.
Simply put, a winter-themed journal can provide a space for kids to document their adventures in the snow, their thoughts on the changing landscape, or even their dreams for the future.
It becomes a personal record of their experiences and reflections during this special time of year. My teenage daughter was just reviewing her winter journals from the years past and marveled at the transformation of her thinking and priorities!
How to get started
To get started, you can provide your children with a few prompts to spark their creativity. Scroll down through my journal pages and pick a few things that you think will appeal to your kids. Art? Quotes? Affirmation pages? You can come back later and print something else.
Ask them to describe the sound of snow falling (page 7), the taste of hot chocolate on a chilly afternoon (page 5), or how it feels to be bundled up in a cozy sweater (page 14). Encourage them to use vivid language (page 50 will help!) and sensory details to transport themselves and the reader into the winter scenes they create.
Another idea is to have your kids read beautiful quotes (pages 6 and 15) or give them pages they can use to copy poems inspired by winter (page 18, and we have suggestions for winter poems to copy here).
That’s not all!
They can invent characters who embark on snowy adventures or imagine magical worlds that come alive in the frosty air. Encourage them to tap into their imagination and let their creativity soar as they construct their own winter tales.
However, the beauty of journaling lies in its openness and flexibility. Your children can use their winter-themed journal pages to jot down their thoughts, aspirations, or even create sketches and doodles. I included a few art prompts to jump-start their creativity (pages 11, 17, 23, 28, 31, 42, and 48).
The act of writing itself can provide a sense of clarity and self-discovery, allowing them to learn more about themselves and the world around them. I included journaling pages that ask thought-provoking questions: what are the things that make you happy (page 10), who is someone you are grateful for (page 13), the favorite way to spend the day in the winter (page 26), list 5 things only you offer to the world (page 33).
Journaling goes beyond just capturing words on paper. It encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and the development of communication skills.
By combining the joys of winter with the power of written expression, we can create an enriching and fulfilling experience for our children. So, download my Winter Journal pages, grab some pens, and let your kids embark on their own winter adventures through the pages they fill.
