Is anyone looking for a new creative puzzle to do with their kids? FlipStir Puzzles from Enlivenze LLC develop critical thinking, spatial reasoning, problem-solving skills, and patience. I have not heard of FlipStir until I was offered a chance to review their product. My kids are addicted to puzzles and dinosaurs, so we jumped at the chance to review the Tyrannosaurus Rex FlipStir Puzzle.
What is Enlivenze LLC?
Enlivenze LLC was established in 2012 in Minnesota by Suchi Sairam. Most of the educational products that company makes are still manufactured in Minnesota, USA. The company’s motto is “Smart Active Play” and their goal is to provide art-inspired, hand-held toys that can transform mindset, energy, and creativity.
What are FlipStir Puzzles?
It’s a 3D puzzle inside a container. The ten plastic pieces that comprise the puzzle are contained within a see-through capsule with a metal stick running through it. The stick (“the grabber”) is used to manipulate the pieces. You can also use shaking and gravity to move the pieces around. The goal is to align the pieces in the right order to form a picture.
FlipStir offers two levels of puzzles: Level 1 and Level 2. The Tyrannosaurus Rex that we received for review is a Level 1 puzzle. Two other Level 1 puzzles are Solar System and Rainbow Pencils. Level 2 offers the Statue of Liberty and Periodic Table.
What we thought
The puzzle is certainly a challenge! The only member of the family who managed to put the puzzle together was my husband. But it doesn’t mean we didn’t spend many fun hours trying! It always seems that you just about to succeed, so it’s hard to give it up. My 8-year old is on a mission to succeed one of those days…
For inspiration, he likes to read his Jurassic World book. After he reads the book, he gets a new wave of motivation to tackle the puzzle.
- The puzzle is self-contained. No more searching for lost pieces and finally, you can have something exciting to do in the car or in a dentist’s waiting room.
- A quality-made product that stands up to hours of play and being jostled around in a car and carried around in a bag.
- It’s entertaining.
- No batteries and weird noises.
- Made in USA.
- Works on spatial relations skills.
- Exercises those fine motor muscles and improves finger dexterity.
I really do not see any cons, except that maybe it would not be a good choice for easily frustrated children. It’s a fun, but challenging and success is not guaranteed. This is one of those toys where the pleasure is in a journey, not in the destination. Although, my husband tells me that it’s also pretty awesome to succeed in putting it together.
If you are looking for a fun, educational product to keep kids busy, give FlipStir puzzles a try. Besides, improving attention and concentration, the kids will be training spatial orientation. And spatial reasoning has been lately hailed as a key kind of intelligence in a modern world, the one that allows kids to analyze diverse bits of information and create a meaningful whole. Since this puzzle is perceived by kids as a toy, they don’t even realize how hard they are working in engaging both logical and creative sides of the brain, training the whole brain to work together.
